Humble and humility, core covenants of many world class organizations. Advice grandma gives you as you navigate life. Life and business coaches who tell you to remember this cardinal rule: Stay humble!
Let’s take a closer look at the definition of humble. Hum.ble: having or showing a moderate or low importance of oneself. Synonyms of humble include low-ranking, meek, lowly and unassertive. These are the traits one is supposed to want to obtain throughout life? To live life humbly also known as low-ranking, lowly and feel as low importance? This is how one is supposed to live their life journey?
On the surface I get it, I truly do. Many folks relate lack of humility to arrogance. Thinking you’re better than or superior to others. To which I say simply, why not? When you have earned things in life, are you not better than others in some realms? Objectively, when there is a set of people you would be lying to yourself that some are better than others in what they have accomplished. Why do we look at this with such disdain? What’s the alternative? To have low importance, lack self esteem and feel lessor? Stay humble, of course! Why is confidence something that has to be all or nothing? Why can’t we sit in confidence of your accomplishments in knowing exactly who you are and what you have done? Why can’t there be a sense of pride about this? That is seen as negative? Yet the opposite of thinking less than, not good enough, and meek is to be revered. Or as the definition states, “humble”. Why would someone’s accomplishments make you feel some type of way? That seems like a you problem, not a me problem.
Humility is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Disguised under the guise that feeling lessor, being lessor, and lowly is how to conduct oneself thru life. The dream they try to sell you. That you’ll be well liked. This is for the betterment of society. What about the betterment of you? What about the fire inside oneself yearning to become who you are destined to be? Be her. Everyone else is taken, including humility.
Stay humble comes from a place from the regime that wants to hold you down. Do good, but not too much! Do well, but not better than me! Now certainly, being arrogant and blasting to others they are lessor in some realms, true or not, is no way to go through life. However, having to be muzzled on life’s accomplishments and achievements because someone’s self esteem is similar to a dumpster fire, is not it. Certainly not the vibration I am living. Choose wisely! Or you could always, stay humble!
