GO ON GIRL! A TALE OF ADVERSITY

Show me someone who has not experienced adversity and you will not show me much of a person. Now before the white picket fence people want to cancel me, allow me to explain. Certainly in a perfect world, there are aspirations and dreams to develop in an environment that lends itself to love, stability and a path for success. The road we are supposed to travel. The journey of becoming built in a path with butterflies, rainbows and sheer joy. The piece that life does not tell you is how some experience the road less traveled, a path of turmoil, a path of hardship, a path of despair.

From the onset, why would anyone want to deal with adversity and its harrowing terms. By terms, many are sentenced to life with it. Not in the way in which many think of when you think of being sentenced to life. Yes, adversity punches you in the face like Mike Tyson at 20 years old. Effortlessly, steadfastly, emotionless, lifelong impact. However, the other side of adversity is one of the most beautiful journeys that lends itself to lifelong gifts of armor and skills you develop that take you far and wide in life. Many of which those who do not experience despair will not only not understand but will always be dependent upon others for.

You need adversity, you need a weight to carry. If you do not have this, you do not get your character tested.  Think of folks who have an easy life, many have no conflict resolution skills, and have not needed to develop them. Often money or someone else, often a father or husband, solves their problems. Given they have not captured these skills in life, they remain blissfully unaware how a small thing will affect their entire day or more often than not, their all around mindset. A sense of lack of self persists as external sources are expected to solve their problems for them.

On the other side of hardship, you cultivate life skills that are undeniably fabulous. Personal responsibility, confidence in knowing exactly who you are, you have had to prove it time and time again. Often alone. You learn that those who have a life void of hardship, simply cannot take away your spirit, your journey and the armor which you have built through life’s less pleasant experiences. For in the midst of challenge, lies opportunity. Things those with a blissful path yearn to possess. You have to make it. In many cases, you are fighting for survival. These elements radiate to your core. Your gem cannot be polished without friction, nor are we perfected without trial. Adversity has sentenced you to life, in one of the most beautiful ways.
